TikTok recently debuted TikTok Now, a new creative tool that prompts users to record a 10-second video or still image using their phone each day so they can quickly share what they are doing. TikTok Now, which was initially made available as a feature module in TikTok, now functions as a standalone app that supports the promotion and enables users to choose whether or not to receive push alerts for these social check-ins. Furthermore, TikTok created TikTok Now with user security and privacy in mind. Creators are free to choose who can access or interact with their material. Users have the option to block specific individuals or comments. Someone can report behavior that they see that they think might be against TikTok's policies.

When TikTok Now first launched, it already had some privacy protections in place. TikTok makes it explicit that, similar to TikTok, if a user under the age of 16 registers for the TikTok Now app, their account will be made private by default and they won't be allowed to submit content on the Explore feed. Users between the ages of 13 and 15 are only permitted to comment on their posts if their friends, or the people they follow, also remark on their posts. Users under the age of 18 have additional sharing options, and in addition to sharing with mutual friends, they can choose to share their posts with the larger TikTok Now community, depending on the privacy settings they choose, with the default setting being "Friends can view."

TikTok Now feature is currently available for US users. The "Now" feature has earned a fairly prominent place on the bottom navigation bar, which is next to the publish button. In other regions, TikTok Now may be downloaded as a standalone app.
