Twitch is a live-streaming video game platform that Justin Kan and Emmett Shear co-founded in San Francisco in June 2011 as a separate business specializing in gaming-related content under the name Justin. tv. Twitch was initially intended to be an eSports video platform, also known as eSports, where video gamers could watch other gamers play in real-time. The platform has since grown to become the most well-liked hangout for gamers because it enables them to not only watch game matches in action but also to pick up game strategies from other players. With the aim of becoming the "ESPN of gaming," Twitch also produces a number of radio shows, discussion shows, and other programming about gaming. Real-time strategy (RTS), fighting, racing, and first-person shooter games are just a few of the games that are streamed on Twitch. According to viewer preferences, Twitch's homepage currently lists the games available.

Twitch platform can support the PlayStation 4 but not the Sony PlayStation 3. It can support the Xbox 360 but users will require a specialized program to watch it. However, Twitch will soon create an app application that can handle all console platforms, which will change this in the near future. Microsoft and Twitch announced their partnership in June 2013, enabling users to manage game streaming and view streaming movies on Xbox One.

On Twitch, there are primarily two types of well-known podcasters: game commentators who may not be top gamers but whose "personality-filled" game commentary draws a lot of viewers to watch game commentary videos, and top gamers whose excellent performance in games draws in other, less skilled players to watch and learn some of the best game strategies. Marcus Graham, for instance, is a well-known Twitch commentator for eSports games. Other users who wish to see the videos must pay Twitch a $5 monthly subscription price. Twitch has certified these gaming video podcasters to enable Subscriber mode.
